Phoenix Mountain Preserve is a series of parks with gorgeous mountain and desert hiking trails. It’s centrally located and one of the largest urban parks in the country. There’s a vast network of trails. For the most part, this is trail running territory. Serious trail runners will want to attempt the Summit Trail up Piestewa Peak, rising 1200 feet over 1.2 miles.

Some ‘gentler’ trail runs are the ~4 mile Freedom Trail around the circumference of the peak, and sections of the 1A Trail. But the footing can still be tricky.

For a ‘road run’, the best bet is in the Dreamy Draw area, where there’s a 4-mile paved bike path and connections to the Arizona Canal Trail via Dreamy Draw Drive.
