Best San Francisco Neighborhoods for Running

For those who want some variation from some of San Francisco’s iconic waterfront and park routes, here are some recommended neighborhoods for running.

Sea Cliff. Sandwiched between our Land’s End and Presidio routes, the Sea Cliff neighborhood has some lovely homes and great views. Lake St. has been turned into a post-Covid pedestrian and bicycle only street (part of SF’s ‘slow streets’) between Sea Cliff and Presidio Heights (~1.5 miles).

Pacific Heights. Great residential neighborhood for running. Start at the famous Lyon Street Steps (Lovers Lane, Presidio), and enjoy running up and down the streets of this area, which has some San Francisco’s most spectacular homes, including the largest collection of surviving Victorians. There are great views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the Bay. Alta Plaza Park is a pleasant oasis in the neighborhood. Can be combined with adjacent Nob Hill, which is busier.

Noe Valley. Some nice streets for running in this neighborhood, featuring Victorian homes. Just west of The Mission.
