The Spring Run Trail and Bog Meadow Nature Trail are two multi-use paths near downtown that make for pleasant running. We’ve mapped two routes — a 5-miler from downtown incorporating the paved Spring Run Trail, and a 10-miler incorporating both the trails. Use our map as a guideline to do these trails stand-alone or in combination!
Loop 1: Spring Run Trail from Downtown. Start downtown at the iRun store on Broadway, and head north. RIGHT on Lake Ave. (RT.29), and LEFT on East or Pinewood, to the start of the Spring Run Trail (1 mile from downtown). Run along the trail to the end (~1 mile), turn around. For a loop return, we suggest heading south on Eureka Ave., crossing Rt. 29/Lake Ave. [Longer Run turns LEFT here] onto Henning Rd. LEFT on 5th Ave. to return to the start.
Loop 2: Adds Bog Meadow Nature Trail. Follow the directions above to Rt. 29/Lake Ave (2.75-mile mark). LEFT on Lake Ave./Rt. 29, which is a busier road but is pretty. Run for 1 mile east to the entrance of the Bog Meadow Nature Trail (decent sidewalk, then a wide shoulder east of Excelsior Springs Ave). The wide, dirt-surfaced Bog Meadow Trail is 3.7 miles out and back, mainly through woods. Return back along Lake Ave. and follow the above directions for the return using Henning Rd. & 5th Ave.
