The Shunga Trail follows the Shunganunga Creek across the city from East Topeka North to Southwest Topeka. It’s a wide asphalt multi-use path that is well suited for a long run of up to 16.5 miles. Most of the path is flat, non-dramatic, and not particularly scenic, but there are some great sections through the Central Topeka area where there is a string of parks. The best places to start are Big Shunga Park, The Warren Nature Area, Felker Park, and Crestview Park, the large green spaces on the southwest end of the trail. On the east end, runners can grab some extra mileage on the Deer Creek Trail. The trail also intersects the Landon Nature Trail in Monroe.
