Trieste Harborfront Run

Creative Commons License: Twice25 & Rinina25

You can put together a very nice run around the extensive harbor in Trieste. A series of waterfront paths and marinas connect the New Harbor (Punto Franco Nuovo) in the south with the Old Port (Punta Franco Vecchio) in the north. Wide boulevards and seafront promenades connect the four piers, with their boats, fancy yachts, and great views of the Gulf of Trieste and the Adriatic. A highlight is the 250m Molo Audace pier, with great views! We’ve mapped a 3.5 km one-way route between the two ports, though you can add by weaving in and out of the different piers. Along the way, you’ll pass an aquarium, railway museum, and the maritime museum, with the city and numerous squares and piazzas just to your east.

From the Old Port headed north, there’s not a seamless waterfront run as the area becomes a bit more industrial. But 3 km north of the old port is a lovely seafront promenade, which runs from Barcola to Miramare.

Longer Run: Combine the Trieste Harbor route with our ‘runseeing tour‘ of Trieste’s key sights.
