In the upscale Berlin borough of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, there’s nice running in Westlicher Düppeler Forst (Forest) and on the car-free Pfaueninsel (Peacock Island), which can be accessed via a short ferry.
Westlicher Düppeler Forst. Another of Berlin’s numerous forest parks, with many km of paths through fairly dense wooded terrain. Westlicher Düppeler Forst is particularly popular as a birding area. The paths are a mix of wider & narrower. It’s up to 5 km east-west, and ~1.5 km north-south. Note: this area is a bit hillier than other Berlin forest parks.
At the western end of the forest, there’s a paved path that runs for 4 km along the Havel River (some lake views). At the southwest end of the forest, there are some nice paths in Park an der Glienicker Brücke, which pass two palaces: Schloss Glienicke & Jagdschloss Glienicke.
Pfaueninsel. Enjoy running on this car-free island. It’s a pretty mix of woods and fields, with some views of the Havel River from the outer paths. And it’s a bit hilly, which is unique for Berlin! We’ve mapped a 3.2 km loop of the island, featuring the longer straight path through the middle of the island — passing a rose garden, fountain, and some other landmarks — and then the path on the western side, featuring some water views. You will see some peacocks on this run! There are additional paths on the island.
