If this is your first time in Honolulu, this is a must-run route! This route tours you through Waikiki Beach, Honolulu’s beachfront neighborhood, with views to the water, crashing surf, and the Diamond Head Volcano. Many hotels are located in the area. Most of the route is on a paved Boardwalk along the beach and through parks, between Kapiʻolani Regional Park and Kahanamoku Beach, including a loop around the Hilton Lagoon. Note: It’s possible to run on the beach but the sand is soft and it can get crowded. This route has been formulated to see all the sights while staying on paved pathways and sidewalks.
Start in Kapiʻolani Regional Park and head north along the waterfront path or roadside sidewalk. Follow Kalakaua Ave, and the Sheraton/Halekulani Boardwalk to continue along the coast with views of the crowded 2 mile long beach full of surfers, and the high-end stores and tourist shops. At 1.4 miles, reachn Fort DeRussy Park, where you can add a ~1-mile loop inland around the park miles (there’s also an outdooe gym). Continue on the Fort DeRussy Boardwalk to do the 1/2 mile loop around the lagoon. For the return, retrace your steps, or run on Kalākaua Ave. to see the sighs of Waikiki.
Options & Add-Ons. You can also do a loop route involving the Ala Wai Blvd. along the canal and add Ala Moana Regional Park.
