In the Charlottenburg-Nord area near the former Tegel Airport, there are some terrific running options. There are three distinct areas, which can be run separately or combined for a longer run!

Volkspark Jungfernheide. This is a lovely park dating back many years, with recent improvements and new landscaping in the area revitalized after the closing of the Tegel airport. One can do a loop of ~6 km around the park. The paths at the eastern end are mainly wooded. At the western end is a swimming lake. There’s also a running track at the Jungfernheide Sports complex at the northwestern end. Pro Tip: Popular beer garden at the eastern end.

Canal Paths. Using the short Mäckeritzbrücke (bridge), cross onto the northern side of the Spandauer-Berlin canal, which features 5.2 km of pleasant paths. From the bridge, you can head west for 2.2 km toward the Tegeler See (lake), or 3 km west to the Stade Napoleon near the Berlin Fairground, just past the Hinckeldeybrücke. There’s nice shade and good glimpses of the fairly narrow canal. Pro Tip: Beer garden at the west end!

Jungfernheide Forst. This large forest area is located just north of the western end of the canal path above. Enjoy many km of mainly forested paths. They’re a mix of wider and narrower trails. A loop of the perimeter is ~7.5 km. Run separately or combine with the canal paths and/or Volkspark for a long run!

Add-On: To the north of Jungfernheide Forst is our Tegler See (lake) route.
