In the Tegel district in Reinickendorf district in northwest Berlin, there’s some nice running along the Tegeler See (lake) and in the many km of trails of the Tegeler Forst (forest). It’s a large area near the former Tegel airport.
Lakeside Running. Tegeler See is a popular swimming and recreation lake. One cannot run a full loop around the lake. The best lakeside running, with wide paths and views, is the 2.7 km between Parkplatz Tegeler See & Parkplatz Waldhütte. Run across Borsigdamm towards Greenwichpromenade. Once past the mooring sites, you’ll reach the beautiful park of the Tegel Palace. There are other lakeside trails along the southeastern and southwestern ends of the lake, but they’re more rugged and narrower.
Tegeler Forst
Tegeler Forst. This 1,710-acre forest area on the west side of the lake, features many km of forested trails. Create your own route here! The trails are a mix — some wider, allée type paths and some narrower, more rugged trails (though the footing is generally good).
Add-Ons & Nearby: Can combine with Jungfernheide Forst trails on the eastern side of the lake, and additional routes we’ve developed in the Charlottenburg-Nord area. Also, a ferry crosses 160 meters of the Havel River connecting the Spandau and Reinickendorf districts, where you can access the Uferpromenade along the Havel River and trails in Spandauer Forst.
