FATS (Fork Area Trail System)

The Fork Area Trail System is another South Carolina running option, located just 15 miles northwest of Augusta. This extensive 37- mile trail system is part of the Sumter National Forest. The trails are mainly wooded. Most trails are moderate dirt singletrack, but there are plenty of options to choose from, and a little something for everybody. There are 6 main loops ranging between 3 and 7.5 miles, and any can be combined for loops or out and backs. The southern trailhead loops include Brown Wave (5.8 miles), Skinny (6 miles), Great Wall (7.5 miles), and Deep Step (5 miles). The northern trailhead loops include Big Rock (3.8 miles) and Tower (3.6 miles). Connector trails add another 3 miles.

NOTE: FATS is also a popular mountain biking location, so keep your eyes and ears out for cyclists.
