Baku Old City Tour

Creative Commons: Urek Meniashvili

This is a quick tour of the older, historic section of Baku. It can be done as a standalone run, or combined with our longer Parks and Sites route or Waterfront Route. We recommend running in the Old City early, before its narrow streets and alleys get crowded.

Philarmonia Garden, with view to Old City wall

A good place to start is at the Icherisheher subway stop. Do a loop around the Philarmonia Garden, which is surrounded by the stone walls of the Baku Fortress. Cross the busy Azneft Square to do a short loop around the touristy but green ‘Mini Venice‘. From there, head east through the park paralleling Neftchilar Avenue for 0.7 km, turning LEFT at the Puppet Theatre to cross Neftchilar Ave. into the old city. Take a jaunt up to Fountains Square, and then create your own route around the narrow, cobbled streets of the walled Old City (Icherisheher), which sits between Icherisheher St. & Neftchilar Ave. Kichik Qala is a good anchor street following the perimeter of the Old City. The Palace of The Shirvanshahs and several historic mosques are among the highlights.

Add-Ons: Combine this with some or all of our Baku Central City & Parks tour, which you can access from Fountains Square. And/or, extend with the waterfront paths or run up the hill to the Baku Viewpoint & Highland Park.
