There’s some good running in the massive University City area, located on an island on both sides of the river in Guanzhou’s Panyu District. This large complex is home to ten universities. Significant effort has been expended to make this a pedestrian-friendly area. There are myriad paths around university buildings, dotted with small parks and lakes.
One good option for a run in the University City area is to use the Outer Ring Road as an anchor. The road is runnable, with a decent sidewalk. A full loop of the Outer Ring Road is 16 km. From the ring road you can access other sections of University City. We also recommend the area near the Higher Education Mega Center North Station, near Guangzhou University Town Stadium at the center of the island, which includes a path around a small lake at Central Lake Park and a running track.
