Research Park Area: Indian Creek Greenway

Wikimedia Commons

For a pleasant off-road run in the ‘Research Park’ area between Huntsville and Madison, the Indian Creek Greenway is a good bet.  The flat, paved multi-use path is pleasantly shaded, meandering north along the creek, bordered by farmland and woods. There are two sections of the path, although unfortunately there’s not an easy or pleasant way to run between them. The 2.6 mile southern section runs through Creekwood Park from Madison Turnpike north to just past the Madison dog park. The 0.8 mile northern section runs through Indian Creek Greenway Park, which ends at Highway 72.

Add-Ons: About 1 mile east of the Greenway, there are some additional trails around the Jackson Conference Center and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, for those staying in the area. The Double Helix Trail runs for 0.6 miles through McMillan Park, and can be combined with 1.5 miles of paved trails around a small lake at Adtran Tower and near the Northrop Grumman building.
