John Hunt Park & Cross-Country Course

Wikimedia Commons

John Hunt Park is the largest park in Huntsville, and also the site of a well-known cross-country course. Located 3 miles south of downtown, the recently renovated park has numerous recreation facilities and is also home to the U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum.

For running, there is a porous paved path that is like a slightly harder rubberized track, with 1.5 mile and 2.1 mile loop options. The cross-country course is located in the southern end of the park. The championship caliber cross-country course is a 10-meter wide, manicured grass surface course over rolling hills, with multiple spurred loops providing  options for 2-mile, 5K, 6K, 8K, & 10K distances. There are five ponds and numerous mature and blooming trees. This site has more information on the park, as well as a virtual walk-through of the 5k course!
