Kanazawa, Japan

Includes Hakusan

Kanazawa is the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture. The city sits between the Sai and Asano rivers. bordered by the Sea of Japan to the west and the Japanese Alps to the east. There’s a nice variety of running in Kanazawa, showcased by seafront and riverside paths.

The best place to run in Kanazawa is the 15 km of seaside paths, which we’ve divided into routes starting at Matto Seaside Park and Kenmin Seaside Park. Other good off-road runs include nearly 9 km of paths along the Sai River, accessible from Katamachi, and 5.6 km of paths along the Asano River in the Higashi Chaya District. For a ‘runseeing’ tour, see our route combining Kanazawa Castle Park, Kenroku-en garden, & Hirosaka Park. For some hills and trail running, head to Utatsuyama Park. Okuutatsuyama Kenmin Park is another nice spot, with 3-4 km of path.
