Saigawa River Path & Additonal Parks

Creative Commons: Izu navi

The paved multi-use paths along the Saigawa (Sai) River are among the best places for a longer, easier off-road run in central Kanazawa. The full path is nearly 9 km. There are several parks along the way, a running track, and opportunities for some loops using paths on either side of the river.

Starting at the Saigawa-Ōhashi Bridge in the centrally located, upscale Katamachi area:

Headed north, it’s up to 6 km north to the to the Akatsuchio Bridge. There are paths along both sides of the river, and water views a good part of the way. About 1 km shy of the northern end, there’s the pedestrian Yukitsuri Bridge, which crosses into Seibu Ryokuchi Park, which has paths around athletic fields and an excellent running track.

  • At Seibu Ryokuchi Park, there’s also a 3 km path along the Fushimi River. MAP

Headed south from Katamachi, it’s 2.5 km to the southern terminus at Saigawayukimi Bridge. There are paths on both sides of the river and several bridges, allowing for some nice loop options. On the south bank, it’s a bit more green and there are additional paths in three adjacent parks: Hoshimajido Park, Saigawa Ryokuchi Park, & Okuwa Guruguru Park.

Add-On: Run the hill to Hirosaka Park & the Kanazawa Castle Park, and enjoy some of the paths there. Also dip into the Kenroku-en garden (might not be appropriate to run).

Pro tip: Lots of fun riverside bars & restaurants in Katamachi,
