Features:
Another favorite run in Lucerne is the loop around Lake Rotsee. The long, narrow lake, surrounded by trees and hills and a popular rowing spot, is located just north of central Lucerne. The 6.3 km loop is mostly on a dedicated path, very pastoral, with lovely lake views, mountains, and lots of greenery.
We start on the southern side of the lake section closest to Lucerne, and follow the path east, counter-clockwise around the lake. The path starts as Libellenrain but becomes Rotseeweg (path) for most of the way. Run for 2.6 km to the end of the lake, then loop around on the northern side. The path along the north side rises above the lake for 1.5 km, providing gorgeous lake views as you pass through pristine green fields. Dip back down to the lake for the final 1.5 km.
If you’d like to run to the lake from Lucerne, it’s only 2 km — you can use the main road (not scenic but runnable), or make your way along the tangle of smaller roads heading north.
