Mount Edgcumbe is a true destination run. Located on the Rame Peninsula on the Devon-Cornwall border, this manor and historical coast park features spectacular landscaped gardens, open parkland, woodland trails, and 7 miles of coast path. The hosue and some of the gardens have set hours and require admission, though the park is free and open year-round. It’s reachableby road, bus or a 7-minute ferry from Plymouth.
There isn’t any one designated route here. We recommend exploring the gardens and park paths. You can also choose from one of these designated walks, which are all runnable and wonderful. Some recommendations:
- 6.5 km circular walk featuring some of the historic buildings
- Multi-Use Trail. There’s a tarmac road and hard-surfaced tracks alongside generally flat grass. This walk heads from the Park towards Kingsand past ancient forts and farms as well as Maker Church.
- Coast Path and Road to Cawsand. Follow the S W Coast Path for 2.5 km from Cremyll to Picklecombe Fort (or drive there), passing Edgcumbe Folly. A car-free dirt road continues along the coast between the Hooe Lake Campsite for 2.5 km to Kingsand and Cawsand Beach.
Rame Head: There’s some trail running on Rame Head, on a section of clifftop coast trail. Car Park at Rame head and then enjoy some of the area trails. Easy-to-moderate trail running.
