Extending along eastern part of the Willamette River and curving south east, the Springwater on the Willamette Trail runs from downtown Portland south to Sellwood Riverfront Park. Popular among cyclists, this route passes several of Portland’s famous bridges, and the connected Ross and Hardtack Islands in the middle of the Willamette River.

This route starts at a coffee shop on SE 6th Avenue near the Museum of Science and Industry. Head south through downtown. The southern section is more scenic and park-like, passing Oaks Amusement Park, Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, & Sellwood Park. Turn around at the intersection of SE Oaks Park Way and SE Spokane St.

Add-On & Options: Cross the Sellwood Bridge to run on the west bank if the river — see our Willamette River South Loop. Also, the Springwater Corridor Trail starts 0.5 miles east of Sellwood Riverfront Park This paved multi-use trail heads east for 17 miles to Boring.
