The Del Rio Trail is a new addition to the Sacramento running scene. This paved rail-trail connects with the Sacramento River Bike Trail and runs for 5 miles from the Sacramento Zoo south to the Bill Conlin Sports Complex in Freeport. While this recreation and commuter trail isn’t the most scenic run in Sacramento, it’s a good opportunity for an easy, flat off-road route. It’s a mix of residences, businesses, schools, shops, & several parks.
The northern end connects to the Sacramento River Bike Trail near the Zoo. Points of interest along the way include the Sacramento Zoo, William Land Regional Park, Argonaut Park, and Edwin L. Z’Berg Park (from TrailLink). The southern half of the trail runs along busy Freeport Blvd. The route ends just south of I-5 at the Bill Conlin Sports Complex.
Add-Ons: At the southern end of the Del Rio Trail, there’s a scenic 2.5 mile section of the Sacramento River Trail than runs back north to Garcia Bend Park. The paved multi-use trail features lovely river views. Note it’s not fully connected to the Sacramento River Trail that goes north from the Zoo to Discovery Park.,
