Home to the Urban Cow Half-Marathon, one of the biggest running events in Sacramento, is William Land Park. Special about this park, is that their vision consists of making Sacramento the most livable state in California by creating better environments.
The 3.61 mile loop runs past vast gardens and picnic areas, around the William Land Golf Course, through several baseball fields, past “Fairytale Town,” and Funderland. Often refereed to, by residents, as “Land Park,” beautiful neighborhoods surround the area.
Possibly most exciting about this route, is the famous Sacramento Zoo. Opening with merely 40 animals in 1927, the Zoo is now home to over 500 animals. Covering roughly 14.3 acres, the Zoo holds giraffes, penguins, grizzly bears, orangutans, otters, and recently built a small African Animal House. With all this, I’m sure you understand why running through the Zoo is known to be quite a treat!
Roughly three miles outside downtown Sacramento, paved trails cover nearly this entire loop. Options for public transportation include the blue and yellow bus-lines.
