Waterfront Path South Along Viinikanlahti Bay

This route follows the Tammerkoski rapids and then Viinikanlahti Bay as far as Vihilahti Park. It’s a dedicated waterfront path the whole way, with additional paths in the several parks along the routes. A highlight is the Hatanpää Park Arboretum.

Start in central Tampere at Koskipuisto Park (City park). Follow the path on the east side of the Tammerkoski rapids for 1.3 km to the Ratina Bridge (option: running track at Tampere Stadium). Continue south through Ratinannokanpuisto, and then along the bayside path, passing through several parks. At the 3.5 km mark, you’ll reach Hatanpää Park Arboretum, a lovely park surrounding a historic manor, with waterside paths, a rose garden & summer cafes. There are additional paths to explore in the Arboretum. Continue south for another 1 km to the end at Vihilahti Park.

Longer Option: There are additional paths headed further south — a bit more rugged. The Hälmälä-Vihilahti path runs along the bay, out to Härmälä Island recreational park. Continue briefly on the cycle path along Nuolialantie, through Lepola Park, and then out to Härmälä Island recreational park, which features some spectacular views. This can add up to 4.3 km.

Add-Ons: Explore the waterfront path along Pyhäjärvi Lake, or continue to the north side to run on the Näsijärvi Lake paths.
