Features:
Head to Kauppi in eastern Tampere for some nice trail running on leafy forest trails. The area is surrounded by forest, and also includes an observatory, athletic facilities, a number of athletic venues, including the popular Kauppi Sports Complex. There’s also a a marina, 2 public saunas and sandy Kaupinoja Beach on the shores of Näsiselkä Lake.
For running, there are 32 km of forest trails that are popular for hiking & trail running in summer, and for cross-country skiing in winter. The trails are mainly east of the Sports Center and are well-signed. One can do a ~3-4 km loop heading to Pirunvuori. The 3 km nature trail starts at Niihama outdoor hut and runs through the wooded terrain around Niihamajärvi Lake and Soukonvuori hill. There’s also a longer trail that leads east for 4 km to the Soukonvuori Nature Reserve, where there are additional trails.
Bonus: Many of the trails are lit!
Pro Tip: Enjoy a post-run sauna in one of the two public saunas.
Note: Keep an eye out for mountain bikers in summer. In winter, the trails are used for X-C skiing.
