Bremen Bürgerpark is one of Europe’s classic parks and a great spot for running. The 500-acre park has extensive landscape gardens, an oak grove, old wooded areas with tall trees, vast grassy areas, rivers, fountains, bridges and lakes. There are some longer allée type paths at the southern end of the park around the Hollersee (lake) near the hotel and others that wind their way through the park.

A loop on the perimeter path running along the edge of the park is 5.5 km. Of course, there are many km that can be added on the park’s interior paths. It’s an oasis of green! There’s even a special path designed for running called the Finnbahn, a 1.5 meter path with the a ‘joint-friendly surface’, placed 30 cm higher to ensure better water drainage and provided with lighting. It’s a favorite of running groups.
GROUP RUNS: Monday, 18:15 and 19:00 from Treffpunkt Parkplatz Finnbahn; Wednesday, 17:30 from Treffpunkt Parkplatz Haus am Walde
Add-Ons: Continue north of the main park to Stadtwald, another park with mainly several km of wooded trails. At the northern end, cross into the Stadtwaldsee Nature Reserve, and run the paths there, including a 1.5 km loop around the Stadtwaldsee (lake). This also borders on the University of Bremen, which has interesting buildings, pedestrian paths, and some nice green space. There’s also a great running track at the eastern end.
Just west of the Bürgerpark, there’s a nice 1.5 path around the Weidedamfleet. To get there, use the path that crosses the canal just north of the Parkplatz.
