It’s possible to explore São Paulo’s historical center with a run. The Centro Histórico de São Paulo, referred to as Centro, includes the areas of Sé and República. It’s also the city’s downtown core, with shopping malls, hip nightclubs, baroque churches and modern high-rises. Note: Go early to beat traffic and crowds!

There are a couple of ways to run this area. Create your own route, starting at the Largo de Arouche plaza. Head south to the Praça da República. Then use the Viaduto do Chá, the main road connecting the Praça da República with the historical center, just across the Corredor Norte-Sul. Dip west to the Praça Dom José Gaspar, a small park by the City Library (Mário de Andrade Library).

Cross the Corredor, and explore the heart of the historical center, between the São Bento metro station and the Marco Zero de São Paulo, the hexagonal monument in front of the São Paulo Cathedral indicating the city’s zero milestone & erected in 1934.

We’ve also linked to a 10k route of Centro, created by an On! running ambassador.

Add-Ons/Options: Run the Minhocão, the elevated highway called the Via Elevada Presidente João Goulart, which is closed to cars evenings & weekends. It run for 3 km between Praça Roosevelt and Avenida Francisco Matarazzo.
