This is a nice run in southern Portland on the west side of the Willamette, combining the pretty campus of Lewis & Clark College with some trail running in adjacent natural areas. Run them separately or combine!

Lewis & Clark College

This small, scenic campus is set on land that once belonged to three private estates. The are paths around manicured grounds, a rose garden, and a running track at Griswold Stadium.  Nice views of Mount Hood. It’s not a large campus, but one could do a couple of miles in here.

Tryon Creek State Natural Area

Located just south of campus, this 658-acre natural area offers trail running for all abilities. There are 8 miles of hiking trails, featuring 8 bridges and a boardwalk over a wetland area. The landscape is mainly forested. Some of the trails are narrow, with tricky footing. There’s also a 3-mile cycle path, that’s the easiest running option. TRAIL MAP

River View Natural Area

This 146-acre site is located just north of campus. There are 2-3 miles of heavily forested trails. Note the area is not especially well-developed or maintained.
