The running options in interior parts of South Los Angeles aren’t terrific. Fortunately, an innovative new Rail Trail has opened in 2026, providing a 5.5 mile off-road running opportunity, The paved, flat multi-use trail runs between the K Line station at Fairview Heights in Inglewood and the A Line at Slauson Station in Compton. It’s called ‘Rail to Rail’ because it connects two transit stations (and two separate lines!).  Bonus: Lit at night!

This path won’t any awards for scenery. It runs through a mix of industrial, commercial, and residential areas, linking neighborhoods, parks, schools and local business corridors. The west end is at the Fairview Heights station. At ~2 miles, the trail continues east alongside Slauson Ave. for ~3 miles to August F Hawkins Natural Park. The eastern terminus is at the A Line at Slauson Station.

There are future plans to add a ‘Rail to River’ segment, extending the path to the L.A. River.
