Tilleghem Forest & Castle

Wikipedia

This Tilleghem Forest is a park-like area about 7 km south of Bruges, and offers some wonderful running opportunities. There are numerous paths winding through fields, woods, and meadows…and a castle!

The best bet for running is to follow one of the numerous trails/loops that are designated for walking, well marked on the attached map. The Tillegemwandeling trail, in red, is 3 km and focuses on the castle, while the Natuurwandeling, in blue, is more of a nature trail. There’s also a 3.5 km marked “loop route”, meant for running (map and details, in Dutch).

For the more ambitious, there’s a 12 km “three castle” route, which passes through woods, meadows, the Tillegem, Tudor and Beisbroek castles, and several small historic towns. The route is signposted and is designated as a ‘hiking route’ — but we believe it is fine for running. This website has information, and a map of the route that can be purchased. The starting point is Tillegem.
