Another good running option along the Rhein-Herne-Kanal is the Gleispark Frintrop park, located on the east end of Oberhausen. The area is a former gas storage facility northwest of Essen. The surrounding recreation grounds include Gehölzgarten Ripshorst, Landesbüro der Naturschutzverbände, and Hundefreilaufflächen. All together, runners will find about 6 km of trails spanning the park. It’s a perfect place to form a loop, or continue along the canal paths in either direction.
