The Harlem Valley Rail Trail is a great opportunity for a long off-road run in the eastern part of the Hudson Valley. The paved trail follows an old rail line for 24.6 between Copake Falls and Wassaic. The trail is mainly paved, with some gravel sections. The landscape is a mix of woods and open farmland.  NEW: Updated 1/26.

The northern trailhead and parking is at Orphan Farm Rd. in Copake Falls. Head south, through Boston Corner, Millerton, and Amenia. The south end is at Furnace Bank Rd. in Wassaic. Note that the section between Wassaic and Millerton section is a gradual climb, headed north.

  • Note: another section of trail that runs for 1.5 miles south of Hillsdale, and then there’s a gap to the trailhead at Orphan Farm Rd., and no shoulder along RT. 22, so it’s not safe for running.

There are plans to extend the trail for another 20 miles north from Hillsdale to Chatham. Keep checking the trail website
