Bluegrass Running Club Horse Farm Run

Courtesy Nikki Gilland

This run is an opportunity to get a taste of the gorgeous scenery of Lexington horse farm country, using a popular weekend route of the Bluegrass Runners Club. The run is on pretty, tree-lined roads, with views to farm fields and stables. It’s easy to follow with few turns. The route starts at the Bethany Baptist Church. Start at the Bethany Baptist Church (which has a parking lot), and head west on Deadman Ln. for 1.6 miles. Turn RIGHT on Fort Springs Pinckard Rd., and head north for 0.8 miles, with Shadwell Farm on your right. Turn LEFT on Parkers Mill Rd., passing Robert Murphy Stables, and then LEFT again after 0.8 miles on Frogtown Ln., and run to the end of the road. Retrace your steps back. Note: The roads don’t have a shoulder but traffic is fairly low, especially on weekends.

Add-Ons and Other Options. This route is located 2 miles south of Keeneland, an internationally renowned racecourse and the Thoroughbred industry’s leading auction house. It’s gorgeously landscaped grounds are free and open to the public. A running tour of the grounds of this National Historical Landmark is ~1-1.5 miles (see this walking tour map as a guide). We’ve also mapped two ‘horse farm loops’ on the roads just north of Keeneland (see this post).
