Legacy Trail and Kentucky Horse Park

visitlex.com

The Legacy Rail Trail offers the best opportunity for a longer off-road run in Lexington. The 10.5 mile path runs from downtown, north to the Kentucky Horse Park complex. There’s a mix of terrain, including sections alongside a road through suburban Lexington, and some pretty, shaded sections along Cane Run creek. About 2 miles of the trail is on the road, but the it’s well way-marked. At the 3-mile mark (Bull Lea Rd.), a spur of the trail heads over to Cold Stream Park, which including a loop there, adds ~1.5 miles out and back. At the northern end, it’s a scenic 2 miles along the edge of the 1,000 acre Kentucky Horse Park, which has scenic terrain, a museum, horse-drawn tours and equine presentations.

Key distances (cumulative, heading north from from downtown):

3m: Spur to Cold Stream Park
5.5m: I-75/I-64 interchange
8.4m: North Legacy Trailhead. 2 miles of trail go from here through the Kentucky Horse Park
