This is a guide to running in Brittany, the peninsula in western France that winds around from Saint-Nazaire in the south to Saint-Malo in the north. Our Brittany running routes are mainly focused on the coastal locations, as well as the larger cities such as Quimper and Brittany’s capital, Rennes.

Our selection of the best places to run in Brittany includes routes in Saint-Nazaire; Pornichet to Le Pouliguen; a loop around La Croisic; Vannes; Auray; Laurient; three routes in Rennes; Brest; the tidal flats of Ébihens; and Saint-Malo. Le Croisic Loop

Brittany, France

A scenic loop around Le Croisic, a peninsula sticking out into the Bay of Biscay. A gravel path on the water side with good footing parallels the main road, offering scenic views the whole way. Full loop is 9.3 km, but can be shortened by ~1 km at the end.

Trémazan to Penfoul Coastal Path

Brittany, France

One of the best sections for coastal path running in Brittany. A continuous gravel path, flat with good footing, runs above the cliffs alongside the D127 road. Wonderful views of the crashing waves below and a great option at sunset. More of a trail run.

Saint-Malo Waterfront & Marina Run

Brittany, France

A fantastic run in the port city of Saint-Malo, combining a jaunt along the Old City Walls, and dedicated waterfront paths along Sillon Beach and around the Bas Sablons marina and beach. Full route is ~13k. The 2.5 km Sillon Beach is also runnable.

Brière Natural Regional Park

Brittany, France

Home to one of the largest marshes in France. While much of the park can be explored by boat through the canals and flooded plains, there are some wonderful quiet roads and paths in the park as well. The interactive map is a good resource.
