Lorient: Scorff River Paths, Parc du Bois du Château, Voie Verte des Kaolins

Google Street View

This is a guide to running in Lorient, a seaport town in southern Brittany. The best places to run in Lorient are on paths along the Scorff River, combining with the Parc du Bois du Château. There’s also a nice bike path, which is a good option for a longer off-road run.

Scorff River & Parc du Bois du Château. Some parts are dedicated path and others are a path alongside a busy road. It’s not the most scenic in the world, but is the best option right in Lorient. Starting near the Choiseul parking lot just north of the Pont Gueydon (bridge), run north on the path along the west side of the Scorff River for 2 km. Then do a ~1.2 km loop around the pleasant Parc du Bois du Château. Return south, to cross the Pont Saint-Christophe. Enjoy the east  riverside path for ~2 km, using the Pont des Indes to cross back over to the start.

Voie Verte des Kaolins. This bike path is a good opportunity for a long off-road run in the farming area outside of Lorient. The multi-use path runs for up to 8.3 km from the Stade de Kerfichant southwest to Plomeur. The mainly gravel path is a combination of wooded and open, passing through the countryside south of the Aéroport de Lorient Bretagne Sud.
