Apalachicola Area: Big Bend Scenic Byway Coastal Trail in Eastpoint

Google Street View

The Big Bend Scenic Byway Coastal Trail offers one of the longest, seamless waterfront running opportunities in northwest Florida. The Byway is located in Eastpoint, which is 6 miles east of Apalachicola over the Highway 96 causeway. The byway is basically a continuation of Highway 96/30 that goes right along the water for ~8 miles, from the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve east towards Carrabelle. There is a wide shoulder on the water side of the road, making for scenic and fairly safe running. There are nice views of Saint George Sound the whole way.

Run as much of this Byway as you like — it’s a straightforward there and back. Runners should note this road is very open and exposed and caution should be used in the sun/heat.
