There are many options for running along tree-lined canals in Utrecht. This one is focused on the Vecht Canal/River in the Overvecht area just north of the city center. The canal path is lined with houseboats, and becomes increasingly green and pastoral as it passes through Oud-Zuilen, and the historical buildings of Fort aan de Klop and Slot Zuylen. It’s 7.4 km one-way from the Chamber of Commerce north to the N230, so this is a good opportunity for a 15k out and back!
Add-Ons/Detours: One area for a detour/add-on is the Sportcomplex Vechtzoom (2 km mark), which has sports facilities and a park with nice running paths. Just north of there (4 km mark), near Fort aan de Klop, is another sports complex with a running track. Option for the return is to run on the canal path just to the west of the Vecht.
