Reynolda Historic District and Wake Forest University

For some gorgeous neighborhood running, head just north of downtown to enjoy the West Highlands and Reynolda neighborhoods, plus the area around Wake Forest University. These are attractive, tree-lined streets with gracious older homes. Rather than map a specific route, here’s a broad outline for a run, in the area west of Hanes Park, heading toward Wake Forest U.

You can start by heading west from Hanes Park on Runnymeade Rd. or Georgia Ave., and then take Oaklawn Ave. or Arbor Rd. for ~1 mile north, crossing Coliseum Dr.  Take Graylin Dr. & the Reynolda Village Trail into the Reynolda Historical District, passing the famous Graylin Estate (now a hotel).  Take a RIGHT on the Reynolda Walking Path, which leads into the campus of Wake Forest University, which has some nice pedestrian paths. At the eastern end of the university, there are ~5 miles of cross-country trails (main “blue” loop is 1.2 miles) and a good running track. Another good option is to use Faculty Dr., which runs for 1.1 miles along the southern edge of campus.

Add-Ons: Enjoy the residential streets of the area. Also, additional trail and loop options from Wake Forest University are here.
