This is one of the most scenic and enjoyable runs in Omaha, from the incredible fountains of Heartland of America Park to the views of the Missouri River. Starting near the hip eateries and shops of the Old Market neighborhood, this roughly 12 mile trail runs north along the Missouri River up to Millers Landing. The highlight of this run is the recently built Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, where along its center, you can stride with one foot in Nebraska and one foot in Iowa. The 3,000-foot bridge is the longest footbridge connecting two states. Ambitious runners can cross into Council Bluffs and continue along the Council Bluffs Levee Road for additional mileage. Or, you can follow the trail south from Heartland of America Park all the way to I-80, for about 3 miles.

We’ve mapped a 4 mile route from the Gene Leahy Pedestrian Mall downtown, north through the Lewis & Clark landing to Miller’s Landing, and then over the Kerrey Bridge.  NEW: In 2025, the 1,100-foot ‘Baby Bob’ Bridge opened, providing a good connection from the Convention center, Charles Schwab Ballpark & North Downtown to the Bob Kerrey Bridge & riverfront trails (access it at 10th St.).

Add-Ons: Council Bluffs Levee Road is a path that runs from the Kerrey Bridge both north and south for 2 miles. Also, additional river trails.
