Emscher Park and the adjacent Nordstern Park offer some of the best running in northern Essen. These lovely manicured parks line both banks of the Rhein-Herne-Kanal in the triangle between Karnap, Horst, and Hessler. Runners will find gravel multi-use paths lining the canal banks as well as asphalt and packed-dirt lanes that traverse through a sculpture garden. There are also some cool pedestrian bridges linking the parks together. We’ve mapped a 6.7 km tour of Thanks to the lengthy canal paths, runners can include Emscher Park in a run of almost any length. If you prefer to stick close to the starting point in Karnap, we’ve mapped a reliable 6.7 km tour, out to Haldenpark and Nordstern Park.
