Södermalm, or Söder as locals call it, is an island in south Stockholm. The vibe in Södermalm is relaxed and trendy, and it was selected as the coolest neighborhood in Europe by Vogue magazine in 2014. Running a loop around the island is a treat. Choose a section or do the full perimeter loop of 11.5 km!
Start your run at Södermalm market square which is easily accessible by public transportation (Slussen stop). Head west and enjoy views in Montelusvägen — a walking path looking over the waterfront to Kungsholmen. Continue further west and climb to Skinnarviksberget, a hill offering another breathtaking view over the city. Run to waterfront and make a loop around the island. Probably the most scenic parts of the loop are a path from Tantolunden in the west to Eriksdalsbadet in the south, and northeast area of the island when you run along the waterfront with Gamla Stan (Old Town) on your right.
Add-Ons:
Additonal paths in the parks — particularly Tantolunden on the western side, with its grassy lawns and jogging paths.
Take the Liljeholmsbron Bridge over to Liljeholmen and and enjoy a 2 km loop around Trekantan Lake and additional paths in Trekantsparken park. It’s a 4k add-on from the Södermalm path.
Can also combine with other nearby routes: Stockholm ‘Runseeing‘ Tour and Kungsholmen.

A 10k “runseeing" tour” of Stockholm’s main sites. Much of the route is along the water and over bridges to two islands. Includes Gustav Adolfs square, Old Town, Långholmen, Kungsholmen, City Hall. Nearly all off-road!
A residential island where the spectacular City Hall is located. Mostly along the water. Highlights include a beautiful park, an inner city beach, and Hornsbergs Strand. Add the 2 km loop around Lilla Essingen!
This green oasis is Stockholm's most popular recreation area. Waterside paths passing several museums, galleries, gardens & historic buildings. The eastern side is the Royal Djurgården, with numerous paths around landscaped gardens.
A lovely green park about 5 km north of the city, popular for running. There are several scenic running paths, including a loop around Brunnsviken lake
A nice run on the eastern side of Brunnsviken Lake, combining a Botanical Garden, paths along Bockholmens marina & Lappis Beach, and the University of Stockholm campus. Part of the route overlaps with our Hapaparken route.
A great run in central Stockholm with lots of variety. Combines the 1912 Olympic Stadium, the 3k Lill-Jansskogen off-road trail, beautifully landscaped Humlegården, and other small parks and bike paths, for a route of up to 12km.
Nice running on the island of Lidingö, the self-proclaimed 'health island'. We've mapped a route over the bridge and along the waterfront, and another one on forest paths at the northern end of Lidingö.
A nice recreation area offering several running trails in the woods and along the Källtorpssjön lake. It is located about 20 minutes by bus from downtown Stockholm. Numerous other recreation facilities, and a lakeside cafe.
In southern Stockholm, there's some pleasant and easy trail running in the Skärholmen area. There are some trails near the water, some interior trails, and even more at Vårbergstoppen Park. Mainly wooded.
Drottningholm Palace is a great spot for a destination run, with beautiful grounds and gardens. Also in the area are nice wetlands trails around Judarskogen Nature Preserve and forest trails of Kärsön Island.
