Features:
Just a few km north of Bern is a lovely spot to run, combining the wooded trails of the Reichenbachwald (Reichenbach Forest) with some paths along the river. What makes this especially fun and interesting is the two short ferries that cross the river onto the peninsula where the Reichenbachwald is located. A popular restaurant, Zahndermätteli, can be part of this excursion!
We start from Bremgarten Schloss bus station — only 10 minutes from central Bern. Run north along the Aare river path for 0.4 km to the ferry. Take it across the river, and you’ll be in the lovely Reichenbachwald, which has numerous lovely paths. It’s about 2 km north to another small ferry at the north end of the Reichenbachwald (or, do a full loop and return to the same spot). Take that ferry and then run back south along the Aare river path. Very pastoral with nice water views! Total loop is 4.8 km.
Longer Option: From Bremgarten Schloss, do a little jaunt down the Kirchweg to the church, and take the river path south to the Felsenau Bridge, cross it, and and do a little loop of the path around this pretty area. Adds ~2 km. Can also take the river path south for 1 km, to connect to the Bremer Route run. Note: Must cross the small Seftausteg bridge.
- 4.8 km (3 mile) loop, with longer option adding 2 km or using river path to connect to Bremer Loop
- 98m (323 feet)
- Bremgarten Schloss bus station
- Bus #21 to Bremgarten Schloss bus station -- only 10 minutes from central Bern
