Cork Area: Carrigaline & Crosshaven Walk Trails

Creative Commons 3.0: Mylescorcoran1

Just 20 minutes southeast of Cork, the Carrigaline & Crosshaven Walk Trails offer a some nice waterside and clifftop running. The paved multi-use path follows a former rail line for 5.3 km along the Owenabue River, separated from the road and with good water views. The path starts off the R612 in Carrigaline and continues east to Drakes Pool, turning into the Crosshaven Walk Trail, ending near the Royal Cork Yacht Club.

From there, you can retrace your steps for a 10.6 km out and back. Or, continue east  along the water onto Point Rd. (reasonably wide, occasional sidewalk), and onto additional paths on Crosshaven Cliff, including the short Camden Walkway ‘Scenic Walkway’. This additional section adds 3 km. So in all, it could be a 16.6 km out and back!

Add-On: There’s a ‘Circular Walk‘ of 5.5 km on Crosshaven Cliff as well  — more of a trail run, but very runnable. Footing is decent.

Essentials
  • Combining all the paths is up to 16.6 km (10.3 miles) out and back
  • 109m (360 feet) over one-way west to east
  • Car Park at either end of trail
  • Car parks at both ends of trail, and on Crosshaven Cliff
