Clonakilty: Bayside Run & Inchadoney Beach

Creative Commons: Warren Buckley

There’s some nice waterfront running in Clonakilty, which lies at the head of the tidal Clonakilty Bay, nearby the popular Inchadoney Beach. One can run along Old Timoleague Rd. for 4 km from Clonakilty to Middle Ring. This is a lightly-trafficked road, with a sidewalk for part of the way. There are lovely water views the whole way, with pastoral dairy farms inland.

Another option is to run from Clonakilty to Inchadoney Island. Inchadoney Rd. is a pleasant bayside road. Note: no sidewalk, but not too much traffic. At the 1.8 km mark, turn right and follow the road toward the beach. One can also run for ~1 km along the wide Inchadoney Beach. There are some additional quiet, pleasant roads on Inchadoney Island for running.

Add-Ons: There are quiet roads passing dairy farms inland from the bay. These are scenic roads with relatively little traffic, BUT they are narrow and have no shoulder, so use caution. Clonakilty is also site of a weekly parkrun, located at The Show Grounds.
