Located in the heart of Kentucky’s Bluegrass region, Lexington is considered the ‘Horse Capital of the World’. Tight restrictions on development have preserved the area’s beautiful farms. The highlights of running in Lexington include some gorgeous roads passing by the area’s horse farms, and some attractive multi-use paths, and parks close to the city. Our thanks to Nikki Gilland for her helpful route suggestions!
The best places to run in Lexington include our ‘runseeing‘ tour of the city’s historic residential areas, the gorgeous Arboretum, off-road running on the Legacy and Brighton multi-use trails, and paths around Shillito Park and Wellington Park. For a taste of Lexington’s horse farms, see our routes through Kentucky Horse Park, Masterston Station Park, Hisle Farm Park, and several horse farm routes we’ve put together in the area of the famed Keeneland reacecourse. For trail running, Raven Run Nature Sanctuary is our go-to. For a trail run and a beer, head to West Sixth Farm in Frankfort, which has 4 miles of trails around the grounds of their farm and on-site brewery!
