This is a terrific run in central Moscow combining paths along the north side of the Moscow River and the adjacent Luzhniki Olympic Complex. It can be run separately, or combined with paths along the south side of the river (Vorobyovskaya Embankment). Also, two running tracks! (most=bridge). The running paths in this area have been recently improved.
The official Luzhniki Embankment runs for on the north bank of the river. The dedicated part of the path, away from the main road, goes for 3 km from just east of the Luzhnetskiy Bridge west to the Gorodok Sports Club, near the Third Ring Road Bridge (also, curiously called the Luzhnetskiy Bridge). There are wide open views of the river from the paved path., There’s a running track at the Gorodok Sports Club.
We love combining the Luzhniki Embankment with the Luzhniki Olympic Complex, which has several km of wide paths passing facilities used for the 1980 Moscow Olympics, plus a running track and numerous other sports facilities.
Longer Moscow River & Loop Options. It’s also possible to due a longer run on the north bank, headed east of the Luzhnetskiy Bridge. It’s not a dedicated path, rather a wide sidewalk alongside a busy road. It’s 2 km further east to Andrew’s Footbridge (pedestrian bridge), and another 4 km east to the Kremlin. And you can go even further than that! For a good loop option, run to you can cross an of the bridges — Krimsky, Third Ring Road Bridge, or Luzhnetskiy — but the best one for crossing is Andrew’s Bridge. South Side & Gorky Park route.
