Granville is an interesting town to visit for stunning views of the Bay of the Mont Saint-Michel from its fortified headland, lively fishing port, medieval Upper Town, and museum dedicated to local celebrity Christian Dior. The best running in Granville is our ‘runseeing’ tour featuring the port, beahch/waterfront promenades and the historic Upper Town. Use our mapped route as a guideline.
Start at the fishing port along the quai and out the jetty, enjoying the views. Continue on the Promenade de Roc around headland, passing the lighthouse (phare), and then run up to Upper Town. Here, you can explore the cobblestoned roads and quiet alleys inside the walls. Be sure to pass by the museums & Église Notre-Dame. Head back down for a run on the Plage Grosset promenade, then back up to explore the Christian Dior Museum and small garden. The next section heads back down to the waterfront, along the Rue de la Douane and the Digue-promenade Donville-les-Bains. For the return, retrace your steps and run along the water or through Upper Town.
Notes:
- To get the heart rate up, there are several spots where dramatic stairs lead from the beach the clifftop houses to residential area.
- There’s a running track along the route off Rue de Roc
- The beach is also runnable, depending on tides
- About 10 km (6 miles) out & back. Can be shortened by doing less along the water.
- Some sections hilly
- Depends on route chosen
- Port or Promenade de Roc
