This is our downtown Salt Lake City ‘runseeing’ tour… and one of the few relatively flat runs in the area. Jump on it at any point. A good place to start is at Trolley Square, with a good view of the water tower. Run west along University Blvd., passing by the Public Library. Main downtown buildings and hotels are on your right. At Pioneer Park, head north on N 400 W., passing the upscale Gateway Shopping Center on the left and the Vivint Smart Home arena, home to the Utah Jazz. At Temple St., turn right and pass by the impressive Mormon Temple and doing a loop around Temple Square. Then take a quick jaunt up to the Capitol on State St. and other government buildings.
Enjoy the return on the pleasant trails of Memory Grove and City Creek Park back to State St. for the return (or vary it). The run can be shorted by 1-2 miles by cutting out the Trolley Square section and starting at the Public Library.
Add-On: Best place to add on is near the Capitol, through Memory Grove, along the Freedom Trail path, to Bonneville Blvd., near the City Creek Canyon trailhead (~1 mile one-way). Another option is Liberty Park, which is ~1.5 miles from downtown. For nice residential neighborhood running near the Capitol/Temple Square, we love The Avenues.
- 6 mile loop. Can be shortened by cutting out 'Trolley Square' segment
- 400 feet
- Trolley Square at S 700 & University Blvd., or any point along loop
- Near major downtown hotels & Convention Center
