Combining the paths in Gorky Park and along the Moscow River is one of the most popular runs in Moscow. Gorky Central Park of Leisure and Culture is a wide open space along the Moscow River. The park has a bit of everything:  formal gardens and woodland that combine the former Golitsynskiy and Neskuchniy Gardens, and some fine old buildings dating from the late 18th and early 19th Centuries. There’s also a large area dedicated to children, and a historic amusement park.  It is generally considered one of the safest places to run in Moscow as it is centrally located and away from traffic.

We love doing a run that combines the interior of Gorky Park with the paths along the south bank of the river (Vorobyovskaya Embankment). The path along the river embankment is the best choice for a long scenic run. It runs for 7 km between the Krimsky Val bridge, west around the large bend to the Third Ring Road Bridge. There are great views of the river, and separate paths for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Gorky Park segment of this run features lovely interior paths that are between the Krimsky Bridge and the Novoandreyevsky Bridge. It’s ~3 km, including a nice section in the Neskuchny Garden — a wooded park around a historic estate.

Add-Ons/Options: You can also run along the Luzhniki Embankment on the north bank of the river. There’s a very cool pedestrian bridge (Andrew’s Footbridge) that crosses over. You can also use the  Krimsky Val Briidge, Third Ring Road Bridge, or Luzhnetskiy Bridge (most=bridge). Adjacent to the Luzhniki Embankment is the Luzhniki Olympic Complex, which has several km of wide paths passing facilities used for the 1980 Moscow Olympics, plus a running track and numerous other sports facilities.
