Brisbane River Loop

The River Loop provides a great way to enjoy a popular path while also seeing some of Brisbane’s central business district and Kangaroo Point. The 4-mile loop includes great views of the city, and hot-spots including the Botanic Gardens, Southbank, and the Kangaroo Point Cliffs.

One can jump on the path from numerous points downtown, but the Eagle Street Pier in the CBD is a common starting point. From the pier, head clockwise towards and then cross the Story Bridge, before heading along the opposing side of the river. Run along the western side of Kangaroo Point, along Cliffs Boardwalk passing through Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park before crossing back via the pedestrian-only Goodwill Bridge. Run by the Botanical Gardens before getting back to the Eagle Street Pier.

Longer Run: A further 3-3.5 km can be added by continuing further on the Southbank side and passing through Brisbane’s cultural centre (and the man-made beach) before crossing back across the river via the Victoria Bridge or pedestrian only Kurilpa Bridge respectively. The latter includes the Bicentennial Bikeway (see our route there). Southbank is also home to Parkrun, a free group 5k held every Saturday morning.

Add-Ons: Kangaroo Point can be tackled on its own (see our route there), however for those who would like to add a stair climb to the loop, the 107 steps of the Kangaroo Point staircase will get the heart pumping. Can also run the the paths of the Botanical Gardens. A loop is 1.6 km (1 miles), over 49 lovely acres, and lit at night!
