South Devon Area of Natural Beauty: Running Options

Kinsbridge Estuary. N Chadwick

The South Devon Area of Natural Beauty (AONB) is a vast natural area including rugged coastal stretches, farmland & quaint villages. It includes 200 miles of right of way and 60 miles of South West Coast Path. There are infinite options for running in the South Devon Area of Natural Beauty. The AONB website is a fantastic resource, listing 40+ designated walks, each with difficulty ratings, detailed descriptions & directions, and even video highlights. There’s also a great interactive map.

We note that most of the walks rated ‘moderate’ or ‘strenuous’ are more for trail running.

A couple of easier, scenic options:

Darmouth/Kingswear Area: Several easier options. See also our routes there.

Slapton Sands. Nice 2.75 mile run along beachside path & nature preserve. Can add with more on the runnable beach.

Torcross Routes. Just south of Slapton. The AONB has three different walks around Torcross, combining the shore, village, freshwater lagoons, meadows, woodland, and peaceful Devon lanes. The routes can be combined and also added to the Slapton routes.
